Island County Public Health Alert: Whooping Cough
4/11/2014

Please see below from OHSD & Island County Health Department.
WE HAVE WHOOPING COUGH VACCINE IN STOCK AND VACCINATE EVERY HOUR WE ARE OPEN.
Dear Families of Oak Harbor Public Schools,
We are contacting all student families to inform you that Island County Public Health has identified several recent cases of Pertussis (whooping cough) in three of our schools: Oak Harbor High School, Oak Harbor Middle School and Broad View Elementary. Students at these schools may have been exposed to Pertussis. While only three of our schools have been exposed, we thought notifying the entire District would be beneficial.
A public health alert from Island County Public Health is attached which provides more specific information about recommendations and symptoms of Pertussis. It is very important to read this information thoroughly. Symptoms of Pertussis typically develop within one or two weeks of exposure to an infected individual. If you believe your child has been exposed or has any of the symptoms listed, please take the added precaution of keeping them at home until they have been evaluated by a medical professional.
Your assistance is necessary to help stop the spread of Pertussis and protect our children who are at highest risk of complications and severe illness. Thank you for your support of our efforts to keep our students healthy and safe.
Sincerely,
Karst Brandsma
Assistant Superintendent
Oak Harbor Public Schools
